The Gallery Stretcher was designed to be mounted in front of a typical workbench in such a way that it serves as an extension of the workbench. In other words, the deck of the Gallery Stretcher is “flush” with the bench surface. This can be accomplished a couple ways. First, the customer can simply construct a book shelf on the face of the bench that is 3.25″ below the surface of the bench as shown below. This will work for the GS-36 and is the most cost effective method.
This places the machine at the correct height and all of the machines are the same height. However, the GS-60 and the ProMod-5 & ProMod-8 have pneumatic tubing that protrude below the machine. In this case a solid wood surface would cause the tubing to crimp, unless the wood shelf was cut-away to allow the tubing to extend straight down to the foot pedals.
Instead of mounting a wood shelf it is possible to use the gusseted brackets by themselves to set the machine on directly. The machine can easily move or fall without some means of securing it in place so it would require some means of securing them to one another. The gusseted bracket below is a common item found at large box stores. Please note that we recommend reenforcing the front of any workbench with a panel of 1/2″ – 3/4″ plywood that extends far enough for the bottom leg of the bracket to attach to, this will prevent excessive movement.
The Universal Mount is a simple and secure means of attaching the machine at the correct height for any bench. The mount can be attached at the top of the bench as well as the front.
To install simply find the centerline of your workbench and make a mark, now measure to your left 21.125” and place the left-hand bracket so that the outside edge of the top bracket is touching the line. Now measure 21.125” to the right of the centerline and install righthand bracket. The span between the left and right top brackets should be 42.25”. The distance between the 2 small tabs should be 39”. These tabs trap the machine between them. The photos below show how the Universal Mount is attached and how the machine sets on the mount.
This will work for the GS-60 and proMod-5, the ProMod-8 requires a second pair of Universal Mounts.
The Universal Mount is purchased separately for the GS-36 & GS-60 but is included with the ProMod series.
